Despite sitting out the final regular-season game of 2017, Kelce led all NFL tight ends with 83 receptions. Only Gronk had more yards than the 1,038 produced by Kelce in 2017, and only Jimmy Graham (10) had more TDs than Kelce. He has been the top target in Kansas Cityís offense for two consecutive seasons. After spending almost all of his rookie season of 2013 on injured reserve, Kelce has not missed a game with injury since. Over the last two seasons, he has averaged 84 receptions, 1,082 yards, and 6.5 touchdowns per year. The Chiefs offense features the tight end as well as any in the NFL.
Alex Smith was under center for nearly all of Kelceís 307 career receptions. Kelce has 22 career scoring grabs -- all from passes thrown by Smith. With Smith in Washington, Kelce will have to get in sync with second-year QB Patrick Mahomes. In Mahomesí one start of 2017 (the final regular season game), Kelce was rested along with Smith and other KC regulars. Splitting hairs here, but before last season Kelce had never had more than five TD grabs in a season.
Though Smith is gone, itís still Andy Reidís tight-end friendly offense. Mahomes went 22-of-35 passing for 284 yards in Week 17 of 2017. Mahomes will have some ups and downs, but the young, strong-armed QB should put up decent numbers. Kelce will likely be the second TE off the board in most fantasy drafts, and deservedly so.
