Robbie Gould

Kicker • 49ers

Boom

In 11 seasons with Chicago, Gould was the most successful kicker in Bears history. That did not stop the club from unceremoniously dumping him prior to the 2016 season. Gould played 10 games for the Giants in 2016 and went a perfect 10-for-10 on field goals. He joined the 49ers in 2017 and recorded a stellar season. His 39 FG conversions led the league, and his 145 points were good for third, trailing only Zuerlein and Gostkowski. Gould made at least one field goal in every game last season. In an incredible three-game stretch in December, he hit 15 of 15 three-pointers (including five against the Bears in his return to Chicago). San Francisco acquired Jimmy Garoppolo in 2016 and appear to bet set at QB for the next decade or so. The team could be among the most improved in the NFL. Gould has been one of the league’s most accurate kickers. In 13 NFL seasons, he has made good on 87 percent of his FG tries and has hit 77 percent of his kicks of 50 yards or longer.

Bust

Gould missed time with injuries in ’12 and ’14. He will turn 36 in December. Although he is relatively affordable at $2 million for 2018, the 49ers could always opt for a younger, cheaper alternative. In the last two seasons, Gould’s longest field goal has been 52 yards.

Bottom Line

Although he is no spring chicken, Gould is significantly younger than Bryant, Vinatieri and Phil Dawson. He’s coming off arguably his best NFL season and seems relatively entrenched on an improving team. He is likely to last awhile in fantasy drafts, and could offer tremendous value for owners willing to wait until the final rounds to draft a kicker.
