Strong Points: Very productive. Has a tight delivery with a quick release. Doesn't have a cannon arm but throws a tight ball. Instinctive and anticipates well. Very accurate with his short- and mid-range throws. Smart, understands the offense and is a good leader. Can read defenses and make good decisions. Doesn't always show the willingness, but Grier can make and extend plays with his feet.
Weak Points: Marginal size. Will be a 24-year-old rookie. Was suspended at Florida for performance-enhancing drugs. Lacks the arm talent of most first-round QBs. Not many from this system --QBs or WRs -- have had much success in the NFL. Takes too many sacks.
The Way We See It: Grier played a lot of football for West Virginia over the past two seasons, throwing for over 7,200 yards, 71 touchdowns and only 20 interceptions. He is an instinctive quarterback with a quick delivery and very good accuracy. What Grier lacks is a great arm. Though he doesn't have the natural size of former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph, they are similar players in similar offenses. Rudolph was a third-rounder last year (No. 76 overall), and Grier might go a little higher. Has the talent to be an eventual NFL starter but needs to be in the right situation. Could struggle if he has to play in some open stadiums where wind can be a factor. Clubs will do a lot of research on Grier because of his problems at Florida. His leadership ability is a plus. Upside is there.
