Strong Points: Instinctive playmaker. Can play "Mike" or "Will" in a 4-3 scheme or either inside position in a 3-4. Notre Dame's leading tackler the past two seasons. Good size. Very good athlete with good-to-very-good play speed. Anticipates very well. Gets depth with his drop, shows awareness in coverage and can close. Very good tackler. Does a consistent job with blitzes. Has the play speed and range to stop both the inside and outside run. Strong at the point taking on and shedding blocks.
Weak Points: Not a burner, but plenty fast. He is good in coverage but only had one interception last season.
The Way We See It: Quick, fast and athletic inside linebacker with very good instincts. Registered over 100 tackles in each of the past two seasons. Has every-down ability -- can play the run, cover backs and blitz. Not the biggest guy, but he is strong, explosive and a very good hitter. Always around the ball. Does not get fooled by misdirection or play action. Coney is best suited to play "Will" in a 4-3 but scheme versatile. Prototypical linebacker for today's game, he should start right away for most teams. Easy Day 2 selection.
