Strong Points: Productive four-year starter. Athletic with quick feet and very good body control. Strong instincts and reactions. Very physical and plays bigger than his size. Long arms for his height, allowing him to play taller. Quick to come up and support the run, shedding and sure tackling. Played a lot of man coverage and held up well. Good ball skills.
Weak Points: Short for the position. Only adequate top-end speed. Could have matchup problems with much taller receivers.
The Way We See It: With excellent tape, Edwards' height is the only thing preventing him from being a premium-round pick. He is smart and instinctive, making plays vs. both the run and pass. He can play deep or short zone, locking up man to man against inside receivers. Edwards has the feet and suddenness required to play man, and he is a tough, aggressive, physical safety who can play down low in the box and support the run. Whether in tight or in space, Edwards is an outstanding tackler. Overall, he is best suited to play as a strong safety because of his physical nature and tackling skills. At 5106, he might struggle against taller pass catchers, but don't tell that to Edwards, who has the talent to start early.
