Strong Points: Good athlete with speed and explosiveness. Very good competitive nature -- plays hard on every snap. Flashes playmaking ability vs. both run and as a pass rusher. May lack size but plays strong and is stout at the point of attack. Good pursuit player.

Weak Points: Suspended for the first four games for selling some of his team-issued equipment. Too small to play down in a 4-3 and has marginal size to play as an OLB in a 3-4. Lacks top instincts and recognition skills. Has not done much in coverage. Raw as a pass rusher, where h has the traits but needs to improve hand use and moves.

The Way We See It: Carney has started games in each of the past three seasons and shown improvement every year. He lacks ideal size but has good arm length, better-than-adequate speed and play strength. Carney is stout at the point of attack and shows he can control blockers and stuff the run. Though he creates a bit of pass- rush production, he is still raw and must develop his hand use and overall moves and countermoves. I did not see him used much in coverage, where he's shown he can drop, but it's an area that needs improvement. I see Carney as a backup OLB in a 3-4 scheme who can become a core special teams player, as well as a rotational defender after gaining some experience, but I doubt he ever becomes a starter.
