- CProjectionRound 6
Strong Points: Highly productive three-year starter who led Buffalo with 139 tackles, after tallying 154 in 2017 and 123 in 2016. Very instinctive and finds the ball, showing a great feel for slipping blocks but also good stacking ability. Lacks ideal size but plays bigger with his strength and power. More quick than fast but still has good range. Effective in coverage, with good receiver awareness and closing without extra steps. Recorded double-digit tackles in 18 combined games over past two seasons. Durable -- never missed a game in his college career.
Weak Points: Weight has fluctuated recently, from 250-plus pounds at the East-West Game to 234 at his pro day, where he worked out poorly and ran an awful 40 time (4.98). Plays against a lower level of comp.
The Way We See It: Hodge, a fourth-year senior and a three-year starter, is from California and originally enrolled at City College of San Francisco. He transferred to Buffalo following his freshman year and has been a starter ever since. Regardless of the competition, Hodge plays very well. He had 20 tackles vs. Minnesota, 15 vs. Rutgers and 10 each vs. B.C and Temple. Hodge doesn't have great "Mike" LB size, but he will be best there at the next level, where he'll be limited to 3-4 schemes. He has a nice combination of quickness, strength and instincts, but his testing numbers kill him. In December, I thought he could go in the third or fourth round. After his pro day, he will be lucky to get drafted.
