Strong Points: Adequate NFL QB size. Very good athlete -- moves around in the pocket and makes plays with his feet. Strong arm. Good mechanics and throws a tight, catchable ball. Streak thrower who gets hot and hits a number of throws in a row. Good deep touch. Quick delivery.
Weak Points: Limited starting experience (only 17 major college starts). Good numbers but doesn't come up with enough big plays (only 19 TD throws). Ball placement and accuracy can be off at times. Forces some throws at times. Inconsistent decision-maker.
The Way We See It: Ta'amu was a Junior College transfer who started at Ole Miss the past season and a half. There is a lot to like about him -- he just isn't quite there yet. Ta'amu needs another year as a starter at the major college level. He started at New Mexico Military Institute, but that is at a far different level. He can be inconsistent with his decision-making, but when Ta'amu makes the right choice he throws a nice ball and flashes top accuracy and ball placement. He is one of the better deep- ball passers you will see. He is very athletic, making and extending plays. Interviews and private workouts will be important for Ta'amu. If he does really well there, he could go higher than my grade. He has upside and could eventually start in the league -- he's just raw and inexperienced.
