- BProjectionRound 3-4
- Hand9 ⅝
- Arm33 ¾
Strong Points: Adequate size but very good athlete for the position. Runs really well. Shows easy change of direction, stays on his feet and clears trash. Good initial quickness. Flashes as a pass rusher and can really close coming off a block. Makes some "wow" plays vs. the run. Disruptive capability.
Weak Points: Must add a bit of size, strength and bulk to be consistently effective at the NFL level. Tends to get tall and let blockers into his body, neutralizing him. Average hand use -- doesn't consistently disengage from blockers. Not the most instinctive guy, often losing track of the ball. Not a quick anticipator.
The Way We See It: Jones is a difficult player to evaluate. He has some very good physical traits, including top athleticism, very long arms, speed and the frame to carry at least another 10-15 pounds. The problem is he doesn't make nearly the number of plays he should with those traits. He is not a quick reactor and has a tendency to get tall, exposing his body to blockers, which he is slow to shed. He flashes playmaking ability -- even some "wow" plays -- but too often gets, and stays blocked. With his speed and quickness, he can be a very good inside pass rusher, if he learns to stay low. His best position is as a 3-technique, and if he gets bigger he can play as a 5-tech. Overall, his talent is way better than his production -- and that will cost him on Draft Day.
