Strong Points: Good athlete with quickness and change of direction. Shows a burst coming out of his turn and closing on the ball. Willing run-support player. Plays the ball in front of him well.
Weak Points: Lacks the necessary play speed to keep up downfield with vertical receivers. Picks and chooses when he wants to support the run. Slow to find the ball after his back has been turned. Inconsistent tackler. ACL surgery earlier in his career.
The Way We See It: Coming off a five-INT season in 2017, Brown appeared poised for a big year in 2018, but it never materialized. He has a long, lean frame and lacks top strength when tackling and taking on blocks. In coverage, he allows receivers too much cushion and permits too many underneath receptions, not closing as quickly as desired because of poor footwork. His deep speed and ability to quickly locate the ball are questionable. Overall, Brown has some traits but currently looks more like a backup. We need a verified speed, and he needs to get stronger. His stock could improve with a strong pre-draft process.
