Robert Quinn continues resurgence with another sack against Lions

CHICAGO – Robert Quinn’s first season in Chicago perhaps fell flat production-wise last year – not to mention expectations-wise. His play, however, through four weeks this season has all but ended that narrative.

Quinn ended Sunday’s 24-14 victory over the Lions on Sunday with five tackles and a sack, which bumps him up to a team-high 4.5 sacks through four weeks.

“I guess I’m just playing more consistently,” Quinn said in contrast to last season’s two-sack output. “...I was talking to someone walking in the tunnel [following the game], ‘On to next week.’ Just being in the league so long, you’ve got to learn how to...move on to next week. You have to realize what’s in front of you.”

The Bears generated four sacks of Lions quarterback Jared Goff, their third consecutive multi-sack performance.

“Great guy, man. Real down to Earth. The way he plays. Comes to work every day,” linebacker Roquan Smith said of Quinn. “Guy never complains. Don’t say much, but always himself and busts his tail. So I have a lot of respect for that guy. Trying to learn everything I can from him.”

Nose tackle Eddie Goldman had yet to take a regular-season snap for the Bears until Sunday, dating back approximately two years.

Goldman opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns and missed the previous three weeks with a lingering knee issue.

After practicing fully Thursday and Friday, Goldman started and earned his first snaps since Week 16 of 2019.

Goldman didn’t register an official statistic Sunday, but the Bears surely felt his presence back in the line-of-scrimmage battle.

“From what I could see on the sideline...Eddie Goldman affects plays by just being out there,” Bears coach Matt Nagy said. “He can affect other players having good results by him being out there. He’s very, very underrated. I can’t tell you specifically, but I’m excited to watch the tape and to see all the numbers and see what he did and how he helped impact the game.”
