One of the things I love about Denver as my lock is giving just a point — I'm basically picking a winner with the worst to fear a push. Next, Denver's defense was playoff-ready before Vic Fangio took the reins, and I can't wait to see what he's done with it, unlike Jon Gruden, who wishes he could wait at least a few more months. Most importantly, though, there is the Antonio Brown fiasco. That the Raiders were dumb enough to trade for him and give him a new contract is unfortunate enough, doubling down and not taking advantage of the opportunity to get out from underneath that contract by suspending or cutting him and allowing him to play vs. the Broncos, it's impossible to envision a scenario in which he won’t be a huge distraction ... if not worse. This one is tailor-made for Fangio, Miller, Chubb and Co.
Nick Foles, debuting in a Jaguars offense devoid of proven playmakers, keeping pace with the MVP and his spectacular weaponry while also contending with an almost brand-new Kansas City 'D' under Steve Spagnuolo feels dicey. The Jaguars easily could be on the upswing again after their worst-to-first-to-worst 2016-18, but the climb will have to begin in Week 2 in Houston. Remember, Mahomes' only regular-season game without a passing touchdown last season came vs. the Jaguars at Arrowhead ... and K.C. led by four possessions early in the fourth en route to a 30-14 romp. Foles isn't Blake Bortles, but the bulletproof coffee connoisseur won't be instant coffee in Jacksonville, either.
