The New England Patriots played great first-half defense but lost one of their key defenders early in the second half.
Safety Patrick Chung went down with an arm injury on the third play of the second half while tackling Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley. He remained down for several moments before his right arm was placed in an air cast, which suggests a fracture of some sort.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick appeared upset after seeing the injury, which clearly was of the fluke variety. Patriots players circled around their teammate while he was tended to by medical staff.
The Patriots almost immediately ruled him out for the game after he walked off the field. Duron Harmon came on to replace Chung.
Chung had been very active in shutting down the Rams' offense to that point. He had a team-best three tackles when he left the game and also made a key third-down pass breakup on the Rams' second possession of the game. He also made a tackle on a kickoff in the first half.
