The Minnesota Vikings made a bold move amid their offensive struggles, firing OC John DeFilippo on Tuesday and promoting QB coach Kevin Stefanski to interim offensive coordinator.
DeFilippo joined the team this offseason after helping guide the Philadelphia Eagles' offense as their quarterbacks coach last season, and his addition was supposed to help QB Kirk Cousins live up to the massive contract he earned this offseason.
But it had been an awkward fit, with the Vikings' offense failing to score more than 24 points in any of their past six games and Cousins seemingly regressing after a decent start. Head coach Mike Zimmer has made some pretty clear shots aimed at the play calling of DeFilippo after each of the past two losses in which the offense struggled while featuring the pass game more than the run.
The Vikings fell to 6-6-1 after losing to the Seahawks and must fight to hang onto the No. 6 playoff seed they currently hold.
