Olsen trade rumors seem premature in Chicago

Updated March 13, 2010 @ 10:29 p.m.
While it would appear a greatly reduced role could be in the cards for Bears TE Greg Olsen in the team's revamped offensive system, we hear reports of his possible departure are premature.

Williams, Eddie (TE)

Posted March 11, 2010 @ 10:50 a.m.
Williams has signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears. Drafted in the seventh round by Washington last year, he spent most of the season on the Redskins' practice squad before being elevated to the active roster Nov. 2. He was inactive for three games before being placed on injured reserve with a broken leg in late November.
The 6-foot-1, 249-pound Williams caught 100 passes for 1,205 yards and 11 touchdowns in four seasons at Idaho, while carrying 19 times for 195 yards and three TDs.

Jones, Kevin (RB)

Posted March 09, 2010 @ 7:57 p.m.
Jones has been released by the Chicago Bears just days after the team signed running back Chester Taylor.
Jones missed last season after tearing ligaments in his left ankle in the preseason finale against Cleveland. He appeared in 11 games and ran for 109 yards with Chicago in 2008 while trying to come back from foot and knee injuries that plagued him the previous two years in Detroit. He missed the final three games of the 2006 season and the first two of 2007 because of a foot injury. Then he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee late that season.

Peppers, Julius (DE)

Posted March 05, 2010 @ 2:28 p.m.
Peppers is no longer a Carolina Panther. The five-time Pro Bowl defensive end has joined the Chicago Bears, reportedly agreeing to a six-year, $72 million deal calls for him to earn $40 million over the first three years. Terms of Peppers' deal were not released.
Signing Peppersis be the biggest move on a busy day for the Bears, who also lured running back Chester Taylor from NFC North champion Minnesota with a four-year contract. The 6-foot-7 Peppers brings uncanny athletic ability and questionable consistency, along with the 81 sacks he collected in eight seasons with Carolina - 10 1/2 last year.

Taylor, Chester (RB)

Posted March 05, 2010 @ 2:21 p.m.
A person with knowledge of the negotiation says Taylor has agreed to a four-year, $12.5 million contract with Chicago that includes $7 million in guaranteed money. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been announced by the Bears. The agreement was reached Friday, the first day of free agency in the NFL.
Taylor backed up All-Pro Adrian Peterson for NFC North champion Minnesota. He'll challenge Matt Forte for time in the Bears backfield after Chicago's hallmark power running game slipped last season. Taylor had 42 catches for 389 yards and 94 carries for 338 yards as a valuable third-down player for the Vikings. He rushed for 1,214 yards in 14 games in 2006, before Peterson arrived and reduced his role.

Pace, Orlando (T)

Posted March 01, 2010 @ 7:57 p.m.
The Chicago Bears have waived Pace after one season in which he was limited to 11 games because of injuries.
Chicago signed Pace last season as a free agent to help patch up a faulty offensive line, but the fading star didn't provide much help. Pace was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection with the Rams and one of the best offensive tackles in the league. He was drafted No. 1 overall out of Ohio State in 1997 and went on to play in two Super Bowls with St. Louis.
