The Jets added QB David Garrard to the fold, signing the nine-year veteran on Monday.

Garrard worked out for the Jets on Feb. 28 and has not played in an NFL regular-season game since 2010 with the Jaguars.

Last preseason, Garrard was in the midst of a quarterback competition with the Dolphins before a knee injury. He was cut prior to the 2012 season.

In 2011, Garrard spent the year rehabbing a back injury. Garrard started 14 games for the Jaguars in 2010 and threw a career-high 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He has started 76 career games and has 89 touchdown passes.

The way we see it

Garrard joins Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy and, for now, Tim Tebow as the Jets’ quarterbacks. While Garrard has dealt with injuries the past two seasons, he was considered a front-runner early in camp last year in Miami. The Jets’ quarterback situation is far from ideal, and this signing does little to change the fact that Sanchez is still likely to start Day One. Adding a rookie in the draft is certainly an option as well.
