The final head-coaching vacancy has been filled, as the Cardinals found their man.

As first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Arizona hired former Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians as its new head coach. The Cardinals confirmed that Arians signed a four-year deal with an option for a fifth year. He will be introduced on Friday.

Arians was the PFW/PFWA Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2012 season. He was 9-3 as an interim head coach for the Colts, who went 11-5 overall.

Bears GM Phil Emery said Thursday that Arians was a finalist for Chicago’s job. He also reportedly interviewed with the Chargers, and had his interview with Arizona earlier in the day on Thursday.

Arians replaces Ken Whisenhunt, who was fired following the regular season and joined the Chargers Thursday as their new offensive coordinator. Arians joins GM Steve Keim, who was promoted to replace Rod Graves, on the Cardinals’ staff.

Prior to his season with the Colts, Arians spent five seasons as the Steelers’ offensive coordinator.
