The Browns hired former Chargers head coach Norv Turner as their offensive coordinator, the team announced Thursday.

The move was expected after Cleveland hired Rob Chudzinski as head coach last week. Chudzinski and Turner worked together in San Diego from 2009-10, when Chudzinski was San Diego’s tight ends coach/assistant head coach.

Turner was fired following the 2012 season, when the Chargers finished 7-9, their first losing season since 2003. The offense finished 31st in the league in total yards.

Cleveland is the seventh NFL franchise Turner has worked for. He has been an offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, Chargers, Dolphins and 49ers. Turner inherits an offense that was 25th in the league last season, led by rookies QB Brandon Weeden, RB Trent Richardson and WR Josh Gordon.

In addition to Turner, the Browns announced the hirings of Mike Sullivan (offensive line), Scott Turner (wide receivers) and Brad Roll (strength and conditioning). The Browns will retain Chris Tabor (special-teams coordinator) and George Warhop (offensive line) from last year's staff.
