The Texans announced Tuesday that ILB Darryl Sharpton will be sidelined for the rest of the season with a hip injury that he suffered in the Week 17 loss to the Colts. That's because the team placed him on injured reserve Tuesday. The team signed LB Mister Alexander to replace Sharpton on the roster.

Sharpton started the season on the physically unable to perform list because of a quad injury that cut short his 2011 season. He returned to the active roster in Week 11 and started five of the last seven regular-season games. The stout run defender finished with 28 tackles, two passes defensed and one interception.

Tim Dobbins, who is likely to replace Sharpton in the starting lineup next to ILB Bradie James, suffered a shoulder injury in Week 17 but is expected to play in the wild-card game against the Bengals. OLB Brooks Reed, who missed the last four games with a groin injury, is expected to return as well.

Alexander played in six games with the team earlier this season. He made five tackles.
