The Raiders reinstated LB Rolando McClain and promoted CB Chimdi Chekwa from the practice squad. They released CB Ron Bartell and FB Owen Schmitt.
McClain was suspended for two games for conduct detrimental to the team. According to the team’s release, he is not required to return to the team until “he has an opportunity to meet with Coach Allen.” Dennis Allen is in Texas on Monday for his father’s funeral. “At some point after (McClain’s) return, Coach Allen will meet with McClain to discuss the linebacker’s role,” the team stated.
The former first-round pick has 60 tackles this season in 11 games and nine starts.
Chekwa, a second-year player out of Ohio State, played in four games with one start last season and made eight tackles. Bartell started all six games he played this season and made 18 tackles and four passes defensed.
Schmitt appeared in 13 games with four starts.
