The Buccaneers placed LB Quincy Black on injured reserve after Black suffered a neck injury in Sunday’s win over San Diego.
The injury occurred when Black made a tackle on Chargers RB Ryan Mathews. He stayed on the ground for several minutes before leaving the game on a stretcher. Black was released from a hospital later on Sunday.
Head coach Greg Schiano told reporters on Monday that Black’s injury was serious, but that “Overall he’s going to be OK.”
Black, 28, played in all nine games with five starts this season and made 35 tackles. He has been with the Bucs since 2007 and has 283 tackles.
LBs Dekoda Watson and Adam Hayward will likely help fill the void alongside Mason Foster and Lavonte David.
To take Black's spot on the roster, the Bucs promoted DE Markus White to the 53-man roster on Wednesday. White played in two games as a rookie for the Redskins last year.
