The Steelers did not expect to see Stanford OG David DeCastro on the board at No. 24. GM Kevin Colbert, speaking after the Steelers' pick, said that DeCastro, as a draft prospect, was one of “a few special players in this group that we thought would be easy to evaluate,” according to the club. It is easy to understand DeCastro’s appeal to the Steelers. He pulls very well, which will make him an ideal fit on the Pittsburgh line. DeCastro (6-4 7⁄8, 316 pounds) will first get a look at right guard, his collegiate position, and he would figure to have a serious chance at starting in his first NFL season. In the long term, DeCastro and C Maurkice Pouncey, already an elite player at his position, could give Pittsburgh an enviable tandem in the middle for years to come. DeCastro is just 22 years old, and Pouncey does not turn 23 until July. The DeCastro selection marks the fourth consecutive year Pittsburgh has spent a No. 1 pick on a lineman on either side of the ball.
