The 49ers denied the Buccaneers' request to interview secondary coach Ed Donatell for their defensive coordinator opening, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network first reported.

Bucs new head coach Greg Schiano is attempting to complete his staff after hiring former Giants QB coach Mike Sullivan as offensive coordinator on Friday. University of Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn reportedly turned down an offer to be the defensive coordinator in Tampa earlier this week.

Donatell joined the 49ers' staff before the 2011 season. He coached the Broncos' secondary in 2009 and 2010.

Former University of North Carolina and Browns head coach Butch Davis will reportedly be the Bucs' senior defensive assistant.
