Former offensive coordinator Al Saunders will remain in Oakland, according to NFL Network Insider Jason La Canfora. Saunders will now serve as a senior assistant, according to a league source, and is under contact through the 2013 season.

Saunders was replaced by Texans quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp last week as the team's offensive coordinator, despite an impressive performance in 2011, which included a marked improvement in the team's aerial attack.

Rumor had it that Saunders was considering the Chiefs' offensive coordinator position, and was said to have spoken with Kansas City coach Romeo Crennel about the opening. The Chiefs ultimately hired Brian Daboll for the job.
