Played middle linebacker and fullback as a Pennsylvania prep, in addition to lettering in basketball. Saw action in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2008, making four starts at tight end and grabbing four passes for 79 yards (19.8-yard average) and two touchdowns. Hauled in 10-117-1 (11.7) during the ’09 season while playing in all 13 games (seven starts at tight end). Began the ’10 season as the starting tight end but suffered a right knee injury (sprained PCL) in the season opener and was limited for the rest of the season. Saw action in 11 games (three starts) and recorded 3-7-0 (2.3). Played in all 13 games — started the season-opener at the “H” receiver and made six starts at “Y” receiver position — and snagged 20-226-2 (11.3) during the ’11 season.Positives:
Very good size — big-framed, well-proportioned and has room to continue bulking up. Fluid and athletic. Nice flexibility and balance. Good ball reactions, body control and hands to adjust to throws and pluck outside his frame. Flashes potential as a move blocker.Negatives:
Needs to get stronger. Underpowered inline blocker. Average acceleration into routes. Not sudden in/out of cuts. Gives up some break points. Can be separated from the ball. Played a limited role in a spread offense.Summary:
Finesse, pass-catching, flex tight end who is more smooth than explosive. Practice-squad candidate who has to get stronger and prove he can consistently work himself open to stick.
