Notes:

Also played basketball in addition to serving as a quarterback, running back and receiver as a Texas prep. Redshirted in 2007. Saw action in all 13 games, recording 12 tackles, three passes defended and four interceptions in 2008. Led the team in interceptions in ’09, posting 71-9-5 with one tackle for loss and one forced fumble in 13 starts. Started 11-of-12 games in which he played in ’10 and registered 47-3-1 with 1 1⁄2 tackles for loss. Missed the Washington State game in mid-October with a deep left thigh bruise and was hampered by the injury the rest of the season. Played in 12 games (11 starts) in ’11 and logged 52-13-2 with one tackle for loss and one forced fumble despite dealing with leg and shoulder injuries. Has two career interception returns for touchdowns, with both coming against Iowa — 38-yard score in ’09 and an 85-yard score in ’10. Team captain.

Positives:

Quick-footed and flexible to mirror receivers off the line and stay in the hip pocket. Can flip his hips, accelerate and run vertical. Transitions with little wasted movement. Pops out of breaks and shows burst to close. Good ball reactions. Completed the Combine short shuttle in four seconds flat. Solid low tackler. Has lined up over the slot and has special-teams experience.

Negatives:

Short arms and small hands. Adequate timed speed and leaping ability. Gets outmuscled outside and struggles to disengage from blocks (could struggle with big, physical receivers). Gets stiff-armed and leaks yardage when he attempts to tackle high. Motivation and focus need to be evaluated.

Summary:

A lean, athletic, quick-footed, man-cover corner, Wade bounced back from an uneven junior season to recoup his draft standing. Has the skills to serve as a nickel back.
