Has a son. Also played basketball and competed in track as a North Carolina prep. Tore his ACL two games into his junior season. As a true freshman in 2007, tallied seven tackles, zero for loss and zero sacks with one pass batted down. Played 13 games in ’08, notching 17-2-0 with two batted passes and a forced fumble. In ’09, managed 8-1-0 in four starts before suffering a season-ending torn right ACL injury against Ole Miss (was granted an extra year of eligibility). Returned to start all 14 games in ’10 and recorded 42-10-4 with two batted passes and one forced fumble. Made all 13 starts at DT spot in ’11 and logged 49-8-2 1⁄2 with a blocked kick. Team captain. Graduated. Did not participate in Combine shuttles or drills (right quad strain).Positives:
Good weight-room and tackle strength — able to neutralize blocks when he plays with leverage. Flashes a bull rush to push the pocket. Good character. Has leadership traits.Negatives:
Average length and athletic ability. Not an explosive athlete. Rises off the snap and gets pushed back. Too easily engaged, controlled and washed. Spends too much time on the ground. Limited range and pursuit effort.Summary:
Big-framed, functionally strong nose tackle whose intangibles surpass his athletic traits. Could compete for a practice-squad spot.
