The Texas prep played in 11 games, starting six contests at cornerback as a true freshman in 2008 and making 33 tackles, three passes defended and zero interceptions with two tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble. Started all 26 games over the next two seasons, recording 61-5-2 with three tackles for loss in ’09 and 57-9-1 with eight tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble in ’10. Had shoulder surgery after the season and missed spring practice in ’11. Again made all 13 starts at cornerback in ’11 and logged 57-13-1 with nine tackles for loss and four sacks.Positives:
Thin ankles. Good hip flexibility. Quick to support the run. Posted nice times in the short shuttle (4.03 seconds) and 3-cone drill (6.59 seconds) at the Combine. Solid personal and football character. Has a pro mentality — hardworking, coachable and accountable.Negatives:
Adequate size. Eyes and instincts are off and gets caught peeking in the backfield. Unrefined technique. Loses phase. Opens his hips prematurely and comes unglued in man coverage. Average closing/recovery burst. Inconsistent with his back to the ball. Slow to disengage from blocks. Ankle biter.Summary:
Inconsistent, finesse cornerback lacking exceptional traits who looks most comfortable in off or zone coverage. Will have to stand out on special teams to stick.
