Goes by his middle name; given first name is Anthony. Was an offensive tackle and defensive end as a California prep, in addition to lettering in basketball and baseball. Redshirted in 2007. Saw most of his action on special teams in ’08 with 12 appearances (all but Boston College). Suffered an ACL injury to his left knee in the Hawaii Bowl, which required surgery and forced him to miss ’09 spring practice. Returned to the field in the fall and played in six games — the season opener against Utah and the final five contests — as a backup lineman and a special-teams player. Became the starter at right tackle in ’10 and saw action in 11 games (10 starts). Missed two-plus games with a strained left hamstring. Made all 13 starts at right tackle in ’11.Positives:
Tough and will play through pain. Functional pass protector. Surprisingly quick and agile pulling. Registered one of the best 3-cone times (7.49 seconds) of any tackle at the Combine.Negatives:
Average arm length. Plays too tall. Tight-hipped. Bends at the waist and gets overextended. Heavy-footed. Marginal lateral agility. Soft grabber — does not show any power in his hands. Bench-pressed 225 pounds only 18 times at the Combine.Summary:
Lacks the athletic ability to survive on the edges, but could warrant a chance in a zone-blocking scheme as a guard.
