First name is pronounced “TOR-in.” Set school records of 5,519 rushing yards and 79 touchdowns as a South Carolina prep. Enrolled at Tennessee in January 2008 and participated in spring drills. Appeared in 12 games in the fall as a backup tailback and a special-teams player, rushing 22 times for 86 yards (3.9-yard average) and zero touchdowns. Contributed mostly on special teams in ’09, seeing action in all 13 games while rushing 10-85-0 (8.5) and catching one pass for nine yards. Rushed for 204-1,034-11 (5.1) in 13 starts during his first season as the lead tailback in ’10. Also contributed as a receiver with 22 catches for 171 yards (7.5-yard average) and one touchdown. Left the UAB game early with a thigh injury and sprained his left ankle against Vanderbilt. Started all 12 games in ’11, toting 187-693-5 (3.7) and grabbing 21-164-0 (7.8). Added 2-52 (26.0) on kickoff returns. Tweaked his hamstring against Georgia. Had six fumbles in 468 touches and gained 4.5 yards per carry. Prior to the East-West Shrine Game, was honored with the Pat Tillman Award, presented to the player who best exemplifies character, intelligence, sportsmanship and service. Team captain.Positives:
Good size — well-proportioned with defined muscle. Good vision between the tackles — can pick and slide and work his way through traffic. Good balance and pad level. Flashes straight-line, short-area burst. Competitive runner — spins off contact, fights for yards and plays bigger than his size. Bench-pressed 225 pounds 24 times at the Combine. Can factor as a receiver — is able to work himself free of linebackers and has good hands. Showed special-teams ability at the East-West Shrine Game. Character player with a professional work ethic and love for the game. Mentally and physically tough. Team captain.Negatives:
Very small hands. Has showed he can be held in check. Lacks speed to the perimeter. Average suddenness and elusiveness. Gathers to cut. Carries the ball loosely. Needs to improve his blocking ability.Summary:
Compact, well-built runner with potential to be a better pro than college player, as he managed average production during his senior season while running behind a young offensive line.
