Last name is pronounced “cah-TOOS.” Was also a quarterback at Chicago (Ill.) Hubbard. Redshirted in 2007. Appeared in 11 games (two starts at safety) in ’08, posting 13 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions with half a tackle for loss. Suffered a concussion against Oregon and did not play against USC. Played in all 13 games and started the last six contests at safety in ’09, recording 37-3-1 with two tackles for loss. Was named the most inspirational player by his teammates. Missed most of ’10 spring practice with a broken thumb but played in all 12 games in the fall, starting the final six at free safety, and tallied 59-7-1 with one tackle for loss and one sack. Produced 75-2-2 with 3 1⁄2 tackles for loss and one sack while playing in all 13 games (12 starts) in ‘11.Positives:
Tall, athletic, defined body with long arms. Can run with tight ends. Flashes striking ability and ball skills. Has played both safety spots and was asked to play in the box and in deep contain. Has a special-teams skill set and experience on multiple units.Negatives:
Needs to get functionally stronger — does not play to his size. Average eyes and instincts — takes some false steps and questionable angles in pursuit. Inconsistent tackler. Average range. Not a playmaker. Hands looked shaky in Combine drills. Intermittent urgency and physicality. Has underachiever traits. Is immature and does not have a pro makeup.Summary:
A converted cornerback, Cattouse is a big, talented, inconsistent safety with appealing size and versatility, but he does not excel in any particular area and his tape performance leaves something to be desired. Claim to fame may be getting trucked by Andrew Luck.
