Was a four-star prospect at defensive end as a Michigan prep, who also averaged a double-double in basketball and set the school record in the discus. Redshirted in 2007. Saw action in all 12 games in ’08, making a start at defensive end against Toledo, and recorded 13 tackles, zero tackles for loss and zero sacks with one pass batted down. Became a starter at defensive tackle in ’09 and logged 40-6 1/2-5 with four batted down passes and a 14-yard fumble return touchdown against Wisconsin in 12 games. Moved outside and started the first eight games at DE and the final five contests at DT in ’10, logging 37-8 1/2-4 with one pass breakup. Started 12-of-13 games played (nine at DE and three at DT) and led the team in tackles for loss and sacks after recording 45-12 1/2-5 1/2 with batted passes and one forced fumble in ’11.
