Notes: Also played baseball as a California prep. Redshirted in 2007. Started all 11 games played in ’08 and completed 242-of-427 pass attempts (56.7 percent) for 2,653 yards with 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Separated his right (throwing) shoulder against TCU and did not play against Air Force. Started all 25 games the next two seasons and totaled 239-437-3,054-23-16 (54.7) in ’09 (12 games) and 243-421-3,830-28-14 (57.7) in ’10 (13 games). Hurt his right hand against Idaho in ’09 and sprained his right ankle against Wyoming in ’10. Started every game for the third consecutive season in ’11 and tallied 234-447-3,153-23-8 (53.0) in 13 starts. Leaves as the Aztecs’ career leader in passing yards (12,690), touchdown passes (90) and quarterback starts (49). Was the first SDSU quarterback to be invited to the Senior Bowl since Dan McGwire in 1990. Had a career record of 23-26 in 49 starts. Team captain.
Positives:Good size and arm strength — generates velocity with quick, clean, over-the-top arm action. Physically tough. Highly competitive. Very smart and studies the game. Well-respected leader. Experienced, four-year starter. Team captain.
Negatives:Limited athletic ability, instincts and improvisational skills — everything needs to be perfect for him to succeed. Slow-footed and cannot escape the rush. Shoddy accuracy. Lacks touch. Too many ill-advised throws. Struggles to extend drives on third down. Did not play well against top competition — buckled under pressure.
Summary:An intelligent, competitive, well-built, strong-armed pocket passer, Lindley is too inconsistent, inaccurate and heavy-footed to be more than a clipboard holder. Intangibles and arm strength give him a chance.
