Notes:

Has a daughter. Also played basketball and competed in track and field (sat out both sports as a senior while dealing with a hamstring injury) as a North Carolina prep before arriving at UNC weighing approximately 270 pounds. Was slated to redshirt in 2007, but saw action in seven games and carried 44 times for 145 yards (3.3-yard average) and a touchdown. Played 12 games in ’08, rushing 77-299-8 (3.9). Did not play against Virginia Tech. Played all 13 games in ’09, starting the final four, and toted 191-713-9 (3.7). Sat out ’10 spring practice to focus on academics. Sat out the first five games of the ’10 season while part of an NCAA investigation into academics and agent benefits was being carried out. Decided to redshirt to preserve a full year of eligibility. Appeared in all 13 games in ’11, making starts against James Madison and Clemson, and rushed 85-325-7 (3.8) and caught 5-60-0 (12.0).

Positives:

Outstanding size. Good feet for a big back — has enough lateral agility to sidestep penetration. Has strong legs and runs with forward lean. Powers through arm tackles. Effective in short-yardage situations.

Negatives:

Tight hips. Below-average speed. Gears down to change direction. Average instincts — freezes in the hole. Too soft. Poor technique and physicality in pass protection. Immature and unaccountable. Barely factors as a receiver. Does not play special teams. Weight has fluctuated and climbed past 270 pounds. Character needs to be investigated.

Summary:

Big, slow-footed finesse back who did not impress with extended opportunity as a junior and took a backseat to freshman Giovani Bernard as a senior. Concerns regarding his blocking, character and dependability limit his chances to stick. Tailback trapped in a fullback’s body.
