Has a son. Prepped in Florida. Appeared in all 13 games in 2008, mostly on special teams, but recorded 16 tackles, zero tackles for loss and zero sacks. Backup linebacker saw action in 12 games in ’09, logging 16-1-1 with one pass defended. Did not play against Louisiana Tech following the birth of his child. Jumped into the starting lineup in ’10, making 12 starts at “Will” linebacker and posting 57-11-7 with one pass breakup and one forced fumble. Missed the opener after breaking his jaw during August camp and had his jaw wired shut for the first month of the season. Collected 64-31⁄2-11⁄2 in 13 starts at “Will” linebacker in ’11. Suspended for the Northwestern State game after violating unspecified team rules.Positives:
Pursues aggressively when he sees it. Solid tackler — creates pop on contact. Competes and plays hard. Clean, efficient mover. Tough, durable and productive. Has special-teams traits.Negatives:
Does not look the part — lacks ideal height, bulk and muscle definition. Has short arms and can be swallowed up by larger blockers. Below-average timed speed. Struggles in coverage. Eyes, instincts and awareness are off. Slow to process and could require patience grasping complex schemes. Turns 25 during rookie season.Summary:
Small-framed, undersized, run-and-hit linebacker who has to be protected, either on the weak side or inside a 3-4. Can contend for a backup job and will have to excel on special teams.
