Notes:
Played wide receiver and safety in addition to participating in track and field as a California prep. Spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons at Saddleback Community College (Mission Viejo, Calif.), playing defensive back and returning kicks. Moved into the starting lineup at SMU upon his arrival in ’10, recording 59 tackles, eight pass breakups and four interceptions with two tackles for loss and a forced fumble in 14 games (13 starts) at right cornerback. Also returned nine punts for 83 yards (9.2-yard average). Moved to LCB for the ’11 season and tallied 47-13-2 with 2 1/2 tackles for loss and one forced fumble in 14 starts. Led Conference USA in punt returns with 16-189-1 (11.8), including a school-record tying 92 yard return against UCF.
Summary:Athletic, competitive cornerback with short arms and small hands who also averaged nearly 13 yards per punt return (see Central Florida). Has good ball skills, but might be best in zone given his ordinary foot quickness and agility (7.4-second 3-cone drill). Punt-return ability adds to value.
