Last name is pronounced “JEEN-bahb-TEEST.” Also played offensive guard as a Texas prep. Redshirted in 2007 as a walk-on. Played in all 12 games as a walk-on in ’08, posting nine tackles, half a tackle for loss and zero sacks. Saw action in all 12 games as a reserve interior lineman in ’09, logging 18-2-1⁄2 and was awarded a scholarship before the season. Registered 31-1 1⁄2-1⁄2 in ’10 after playing in 13 games and starting the final nine games at defensive tackle. Missed the Texas Bowl against Illinois with a knee injury. Started 12-of-13 games played at nose guard in ’11 and recorded 36-8 1⁄2-4 with three passes batted down and one blocked kick.Positives:
Has sheer mass and natural girth and can hold his ground vs. the run. Flashes initial quickness and bull strength to force his way into the backfield. Strong wrap tackler. Tough and durable. Motivated and hardworking.Negatives:
Has more mass than length. Unpolished technique. Needs to play with more consistent leverage. Average balance. Needs to improve upper-body strength. Plays short-armed and can improve hand use — does not jolt defenders or protect his frame. Average eyes and recognition. Limited pass-rush value. Not a finisher. Stamina needs to be monitored.Summary:
Stoutly built, heavy-legged, try-hard overachiever who could be a serviceable, two-down run defender/force player with continued strength development and technical refinement.
