Last name is pronounced “mar-CEASE.” Participated in track and was a two-way lineman as a California prep, who allowed only two sacks in three varsity seasons. Redshirted in 2007 and played in only one game, as a reserve left tackle vs. UCLA, in ’08. In ’09, he saw action in a pair of September games before undergoing surgery on both shoulders (right shoulder in early October and left shoulder in early November) and missing the rest of the season. Returned in ’10 and started 11-of-12 contests - the season opener at right tackle and the last 10 games at left guard. Saw action in all 13 games in '11, starting the first 10 at left guard.
