Four-year, two-way varsity lineman who also earned letters in basketball (four) and track and field (three) as a California prep. Redshirted in 2007. Missed the first seven games in ’08 (high ankle sprain) before starting the final five games at right tackle. Broke his right foot in February ’09 but started all 13 games at the ORT spot in the fall. Was suspended for the ’10 season opener against Kansas State (violation team rules) and did not play in Week Two against Stanford (coach’s decision) but started the final 10 contests at right tackle. Made all 14 starts at the strong-side tackle in ’11.Positives:
Excellent size with a well-proportioned frame. Functional foot quickness to kick-slide and widen an outside rusher. Extends and latches on to defenders. Can lean and seal and is effective with an angle. Good personal and football character — intense, hardworking and cares about the game.Negatives:
Below-average athletic ability and bend. Carries his hands low and exhibits a rowing motion in his pass set. Limited contact balance and body control. Inconsistent positioning and sustain. Unsudden to adjust and shift his weight. Not a power player. Struggles connecting with a moving target.Summary:
Upright, finesse, lean-and-seal, short-area zone blocker whose size surpasses his physicality, though he is more effective than he is pretty. Could provide depth in a slide-protection scheme.
