Also lettered in track and played quarterback and running back as a Mississippi prep. Began his college career at Southern Mississippi, where he redshirted in 2007 and was a member of the Conference USA Dean’s list. Saw action in 11 games in ’08, making five tackles, zero pass breakups and zero interceptions with one forced fumble. Wore No. 2 for Southern Miss. Transferred to Hampton for the ’09 campaign and posted 32-7-1 with two tackles for loss and a forced fumble in 11 games (seven starts). Appeared in all 11 games, making 10 starts, in ’10 and totaled 41-14-2. In ’11, recorded 51-15-4 with 4 1⁄2 tackles for loss and one forced fumble in 10 games.

Very good size and movement skills.  Light-footed pedal. Good balance and body control. Can shadow in man coverage. Zone-aware. Smart and instinctive. Is rangy and makes plays on the ball. Has worked as a “gunner” and jammer. Tough and durable. Has leadership traits. Mature, motivated and hardworking. 

Needs to improve his functional strength — has an underpowered jam and stays wired on blocks. Average physicality. Not an explosive athlete — managed a 33-inch vertical leap and a broad jump of 9 feet 8 inches at the Combine. Allows too much cushion. Takes some questionable angles in pursuit. Selective hitter. Does not stand out vs. marginal competition.

Big, athletic, Southern Miss transfer with the makeup of a reserve/special-teams player. Physicality and consistency leave something to be desired and could be overdrafted given the demand for big corners.
