Named Fayette (Ga.) County Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year after his junior and senior seasons. Also participated in track. Appeared in 10 games as a true freshman in 2008, making the start at strong safety against Navy, and posted 22 tackles, zero pass breakups and one interception. Did not play against Wake Forest and missed season-ending North Carolina game after suffering knee injury that knocked him out of Virginia Tech game after 15 snaps. In ’09, started all 12 games at strong safety and registered 83-5-0 with three tackles for loss, half a sack and three forced fumbles. Was the starter at strong safety in ’10, totaling 93-7-1 with six tackles for loss and three forced fumbles in 12 contests. Team captain.Summary:
Thin, high-cut, functionally strong box safety/run supporter with outstanding character, including leadership traits and a professional work ethic. However, is a liability in man coverage given his stiff hips and monotone movement and is not ideally suited to excel on special teams. Propped up his stock with pro-day showing, including a 35½-inch vertical leap.
