Also played basketball as an Alabama prep and was all-purpose player on the football field who saw action at RB, QB, WR, DB and kick returner. Missed half his senior season with a foot injury and redshirted in 2007. Played all 14 games in ’08, starting four, and had 11 receptions for 137 yards (12.5-yard average) and two touchdowns. Started 11-of-14 games for the national champs in ’09, snagging 31-523-2 (16.9). Started 7-of-13 games in ’10 and produced 38-557-3 (14.7). Added 21 kickoff returns for 267 yards (12.7) and eight punt returns for 189 yards (23.6). Also tossed a 19-yard TD pass. Led the national champions in receptions and yards in ’11 after grabbing 56-627-1 (11.2) in 13 games (12 starts). Was the main returner with 33-436-1 (13.2) as a punt returner and 12-342-0 (28.5) as a kickoff returner. Has rushed 14 times in his career for 17 yards (1.2) and zero touchdowns. Has five career fumbles.Positives:
Very quick-footed and loose-hipped. Jets off the line (1.42-second 10-yard Combine split). Shows gear change and suddenness to separate. Good field awareness. Finds soft spots in zones. Instinctive, elusive and creative with the ball in his hands — cuts sharply and has explosive short-area burst. Makes the first man miss as a punt returner and shows vision and traffic burst. Plays bigger than his size. Tough, football-smart.Negatives:
Is not built for a big man’s game — marginal height and has short arms and small hands (average catcher). Has been dinged and durability is a concern. Needs to bulk up and improve functional strength — too easily rerouted. Could refine route running. Exposes his frame to some shots. Underpowered blocker. Could require kid gloves — is immature and lets his emotions get the best of him. Needs to adopt a more professional work ethic.Summary:
Small-framed, competitive, slippery, quicker-than-fast slot receiver and return man with impact ability who will have to adjust to NFL physicality, prove he can stay healthy and dedicate himself to earn trust and have longevity.
