Notes:

Prepped in California and began his collegiate career at USC in 2008, where he was credited with four tackles and two for loss (both sacks) with one batted pass and one forced fumble in eight games. Was ejected from the Notre Dame contest for fighting and was suspended for a half against UCLA. Played all 13 games in ’09, tallying 18-3 1⁄2-3 1⁄2 with three pass breakups and a forced fumble. Was allowed by NCAA to transfer to Tennessee and play immediately in ’10. Started 12-of-13 games, including the final eight at tackle, and recorded 48-11-4 with five batted passes, one interception and one forced fumble. Led the Vols in tackles for loss and sacks in ’11 after logging 56-11-2 1⁄2 with two batted passes and one forced fumble in 12 starts at defensive tackle.

Positives:

Has a big frame, long arms and room for added bulk. Athletic movement skills. Can redirect and chase. Good lateral movement to flow in pursuit. Plays hard. Solid character and team-first attitude. Durable and football-smart. Has played inside and outside. Has some upside.

Negatives:

Small hands. Lacks bulk — has a narrow frame with a soft midsection and thin legs. Marginal weight-room strength. Exerts too much effort just to tread water inside. Struggles to anchor and gets smeared in the run game. Inefficient get-off. Inflexible to run the arc. Unrefined technique. Does not utilize his length — absorbs contact and needs to become a better hands fighter.

Summary:

Tall, angular, long-armed, smooth-muscled defensive lineman with tweener traits. Developmental practice-squad candidate who could be tried as a slanting, stunting three-technique.
