Played his first three years of prep football in New Orleans, where he was a dual-threat quarterback and wide receiver, before finishing at Bellaire HS in Houston because of Hurricane Katrina and played defensive back for the first time. Redshirted in 2007 and saw action only in the season-opener in ’08, recording no statistics. Appeared in all 13 games in ’09, mostly on special teams but logged 13 tackles, zero passes broken up and zero sacks with one forced fumble. Was used as a returner with 18 kickoff returns for 385 yards (21.4-yard average) and one punt return for 14 yards. In ’10, managed 16-1-1 with one tackle for loss and one forced fumble in 13 games as a reserve cornerback. Received his degree in August ’11 before playing in all 13 games and starting the final seven games of the year at cornerback, posting 51-8-0 with 2 1/2 tackles for loss, one sack and two forced fumbles.Summary:
Was A&M’s third corner, along with Coryell Judie and Terrence Frederick, but has very good size and produced eight pass breakups as a senior when he came on late in the season. Has man-coverage limitations (tends to clutch and grab downfield), but physicality and special-teams ability could see him drafted late. Recorded a 38½-inch vertical leap and a broad jump of 10 feet 5 inches.
