Rushed for more than 2,800 yards and 36 touchdowns his senior season as a Texas prep. Also participated in track. Began his college career at Tennessee, rushing 36 times for 214 yards (5.9-yard average) and one touchdown and 13 catches for 214 yards (16.5-yard average) and zero TDs in 13 games during the 2007 season. Also returned 13 kickoffs for 243 yards (18.7-yard average). Saw action in 11 games in ’08, making his first career start against Wyoming, and posted 73-388-4 (5.3) rushing, 3-10-0 (3.3) receiving and 6-104-0 (17.3) on kickoff returns. Decided to transfer after Lane Kiffin took over at Tennessee and enrolled at Louisiana Tech instead of sitting behind Tauren Poole. Had to sit out the ’09 season per NCAA transfer rules. Led the Bulldogs in rushing with 212-1,181-10 (5.6) and recorded 25-181-0 (7.2) receiving in 12 games (six starts) in ’10. Started all 10 games in which he played in ’11, managing 198-838-9 (4.2) rushing with 18-93-1 (5.2) receiving. Was nagged by a high ankle sprain/Achilles injury, and missed the final two games of the regular season before being declared academically ineligible for the bowl game. Lost 9-of-14 fumbles in 567 career attempts and gained 5.1 yards per carry. Named MVP of the East-West Shrine Game.Positives:
Good size — lean, well-defined build. Loose athlete. Has a feel for the passing game — gets open and catches naturally. Good feet and initial quickness. Has his head on a swivel as a blocker, will face up or chip aggressively.Negatives:
Average speed, vision and patience — slow to react in the hole. Ordinary burst. Is a bit straight-linish and gathers to cut upfield. Ducks his head before contact. Does not run with power or finish runs aggressively. Competiveness, toughness and intensity leave something to be desired. Talks too much. Copped a big-man-on-campus attitude at Louisiana Tech, does not know what it means to be a pro and clashed with coaches at two schools. Very average Combine workout.Summary:
Tennessee transfer whose inside running skills do not compensate for average speed and explosion. Practice-squad candidate whose best chance to contribute could be on third down or as a reserve. Just a guy.
