Notes: Played wide receiver and safety as a Virginia prep in addition to starring in basketball. Redshirted in 2007 after undergoing back surgery in August. Saw action in all 12 games in ’08 as a backup receiver, recording seven catches for 65 yards (9.3-yard average) and zero touchdowns. Started all 12 contests in ’09, grabbing a team-high 31-413-1 (13.3). In ’10, led the team in catches and finished second in yards after amassing 58-799-5 (13.8) in 12 starts. Missed spring practice in ’11 after surgery in February on his right ankle to reconstruct the ligaments. Made 12-of-13 starts (all but Southern Miss) in the fall and was the leading receiver with 66-913-3 (13.8). Only fumbled once in career.
Positives:Good body control. Gets inside position on slants. Sits down in zone. Can catch away from his body. Can take a hit and hang on. Played in a pro-style offense and has slot experience. Aggressive blocker. Tough and competitive. Good character and work ethic.
Negatives:Not an explosive athlete. Average deep speed. Does not accelerate off the jam. Stiff hips. Dull lower body — does not exhibit burst, flexibility or gear change. Could struggle to separate vs. man coverage.
Summary:Lean, tough, tight-hipped underneath receiver lacking exceptional athletic traits. Will have to prove his worth on special teams to stick as a reserve.
