Married with a child. Also played basketball as a Louisiana prep. Redshirted (shoulder) in 2006. Appeared in seven games in ’07, starting two at right defensive end, and recorded seven tackles, one for loss and one sack. Took ownership of the DRE position and started all 26 games the next two seasons — produced 36-111⁄2-2 with one blocked kick in ’08; and 39-10-5 with one batted pass and a blocked field-goal attempt in ’09. Made only three starts at right defensive end in ’10 because of injuries, managing 6-1-1. Missed the season opener with a heart rhythm issue and suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee Sept. 25 against Fresno State. Was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA for the ’11 season. Missed spring practice while rehabbing from the ACL injury. Appeared in all 12 games in the fall, making seven starts at right defensive end, and logged 33-21⁄2-0. Two-time team captain and working on a second degree.Positives:
Has very long arms and flashes some pass-rush ability. Has strong intangibles. Competitive. Vocal leader.Negatives:
Marginal size to play the run. Very thin in the lower body and struggles to anchor. Needs to do a better job using his hands. Lacks physicality. Marginal sack productionDurability has been an issue and could eliminate from draft consideration. Overaged.Summary:
Soft-tempered, thin-framed, undersized pass rush specialist who flashed early in his career, but has not been the same since suffering a serious knee injury and must prove he can stay healthy to warrant a chance as a developmental pass rusher. Could fend for a practice-squad job.
