Also lettered in basketball and baseball. Threw for 8,609 yards and 90 touchdowns as a Kentucky quarterback. Redshirted in 2007. Saw action in six contests (one start), mostly on special teams, in ’08 and registered six tackles. Moved into the starting lineup at right cornerback in ’09 and posted 61 tackles, four passes defended and three interceptions with four tackles for loss in 13 games. Led the Big East Conference in interceptions in ’10 after recording 57-11-6 with two tackles for loss and one forced fumble in 13 starts at the RCB spot. Moved to the LCB position for the ’11 season and registered 64-9-4 with two tackles for loss in 13 starts. Led the team in interceptions and pass breakups. Team captain.Positives:
Well-built. Good balance, body control and hip flex. Sound in zone coverage to position, anticipate and react. Good ball skills. Quick in short area. Supports the run urgently and limits yards after contact. Effective on special teams and has worked as a “gunner” and jammer. Plays with awareness. Very intelligent. Physically and mentally tough. Durable and hardworking.Negatives:
Lacks elite top-end speed. Was not deployed in press coverage and has man-cover limitations (average transitional quickness). Misses some one-on-one tackles in space. Could stand to improve functional strength.Summary:
Good-sized, dependable, productive zone corner who puts himself in position to make plays and offers special-teams value. Football player with a desirable playing temperament and professional makeup who could warrant interest as a free safety.
