Notes:

Also participated in track and wrestling as a South Carolina prep. Saw action in all 12 games as a true freshman in 2008, making 54 tackles, four pass breakups and two interceptions with four tackles for loss, one forced fumble and two blocked kicks. Led the team in tackles in ’09 with 79-3-0 with 4 1⁄2 tackles for loss, 1 1⁄2 sacks, one forced fumble and three blocked kicks in 11 starts at cornerback. In 10 starts in ’10, posted 59-3-1 with two tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one blocked kick to set the conference’s career record for blocked kicks with six. Sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder against North Greenville and missed the next week against VMI. Named Big South Defensive Player of the Year in ’11 after recording 87-6-4 with 3 1⁄2 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and three blocked kicks in 11 starts. Scored three TDs — two at California (41-yard punt return and 29-yard interception return) and a seven-yard punt return vs. Furman).

Positives:

Very good size. Toils in the weight room and it shows — has a lean, well-proportioned, cut-up physique. Explosive athletic ability — broad-jumped 10 feet 11 inches and posted a 391⁄2-inch vertical leap at the Combine. Covers ground with a smooth, gliding stride. Quick to support the run. Willing, productive tackler. Impact special-teams player and has experience as a “gunner” and jammer. Four-year starter. Outstanding character. Motivated, hardworking and intelligent.

Negatives:

Has tweener traits — lacks ideal speed and suddenness for the cornerback position and bulk and anticipation for the safety spot. Still developing instincts. Unrefined technique. Has to iron out his pedal. Average hip flex and transitional quickness. Inconsistent ball reactions (average production on the ball). Faced marginal competition.

Summary:

Athletic, competitive, versatile, unpolished FCS prospect with enticing measurables and intangibles. Has moldable physical ability and at worst should bring value as a swing backup and special-teams contributor.
