Notes: Father (Matt), grandfather (Steve) and great-grandfather (Bob Higgins) all played at Penn State. Matt was a 10-year NFL fullback with the Chicago Bears (1980-89); Steve was an All-America guard; and Higgins was an All-American and coached the Nittany Lions from 1930-48. Joe, who also played basketball as a suburban Chicago prep, played for former NFL LB John Holecek. Redshirted in 2007. Played all 13 games in ’08 — carried nine times for 26 yards (2.9-yard average) and zero touchdowns with two receptions for 36 yards (18.0) and zero touchdowns. Played all 13 games in ’09, starting two, and recorded 22-68-0 (3.1) rushing and 21-186-1 (8.9) receiving. Started 7-of-13 games in ’10 with 8-15-0 (1.9) rushing and 15-154-1 (10.3) receiving. Appeared in 11 games, making five starts when a fullback was used, and totaled 14-51-1 (3.6) rushing and 12-101-1 (8.4) in '11. Missed two games (Northwestern, Illinois) with a neck stinger.
